90s boyband lovers should not be ashamed

I wish I had inspiration to write on a more meaningful subject, but the flows of sugar running through my veins have me fixating on one meaningless guilty pleasure of mine: pop groups of the nineties. They were formulated bands, almost all put together by men in suits with less interest in content and quality, more in pulling the money out of our parents wallets. Nevertheless, for many girls of my generation (some boys, more than will admit of course), these bands sang what would be the soundtrack to an important part of our life : that period where you get out into the world and start learning about the politics of love, friendship and society in general. These singers, barely adults themselves much of the time, taught us a lot. Many young girls developed their first crush in these bands. I was a Nick girl. Interestingly, he is the polar opposite of my type of men now. There is something about those young teens with floppy light coloured hair that gets to the tween girls (current incarnation: Justin Bieber).
So to please the 10 year old girl in me (and all of us, come on), here is a selection of videos all picked, all guilty pleasures of mine today. Its hard to be unhappy when these songs are playing, and when you get to watch people walking around sporting turtleneck tee-shirts, bowl cuts and do-rags.

The kings of my childhood from 7 to 11 years old (when I discovered Silverchair)

I liked Lance Bass:

Pay attention to the lyrics of this song and you'll shudder at the thought that you actually sang along to this when you were 11:

Along the lines of that last one, although it is a very relatable subject for tween boys:

These guys actually knew how to play  instruments, and had an actual talent other than holding a note and having a pretty face. Here they are in front of a crowd of girls gone bonkers:

And here they are 10 years later, still going strong, although the crowd has shrunken considerably:

MTV produced a tv show where a fictional boyband called 2gether was created as a satire to all the boybands around:

And here is the best boy band video EVER:

And this is a video from my CURRENT favorite boy band:
